Dare, Deal and Lead....

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

It is a COVID season.. a global crisis of many facets that have crippled what used to be a normal way of life for the professionals and corporate employees. At this juncture, groups and organizations look for leaders who dare to deal with adversity at a personal level and lead others through the crisis. The election fever in the USA for the presidency is one such setting for this need of the hour! I am glad to share my reflections as a prelude to the content of the lecture by Dr.PG.Raguraman of Accenture on the Topic:

DARE TO LEAD THROUGH THE CRISES

D-Disruption ready and digitally savvy (Devastating experience and digital technology)

A-Adaptive attitude and an authentic and inspirational life

R-Resilience and resurgence of bouncing back

E-Execution Excellence- willpower to live the choices and other strategies

Who does not have problems? Everyone has any number of problems on any day. Giving up is just not in our DNA as we have a very strong survival instinct. We tend to fight until the end. But we have to go through a process of reckoning our strengths even amidst the disruption experienced, harness our skills and deploy them to win for ourselves; we also tend to help others in their turn. What a beautiful spirit of a human being!

But the process is not that easy. Very often we live in problems without knowing there is at least one. Some problems are real maybe, physical, emotional, social, existential, and even ontological. More often than not we imagine problems or perceive a simple one as a Himalayan problem blowing it out of all proportions. We allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by these problems. If we allow ourselves to linger in such ruminations, we create stress, sometimes very acute stress that tells upon our health, relationships, work, and life in general. Depending on their persistence or intensity, such problems become a crisis. We find ourselves at a critical moment when we have to make a choice. To give in or to take it on! A crucial juncture for everyone! If we let the problem engulf us, we are in distress. Fear and anxiety take a grip on us! The results are helplessness and hopelessness!

On the other hand, if we decide to take it on confidently it becomes eustress. Confidence and persistence prevail! A sweet tension is what experience when we are discovering our potentials for resilience, when we bounce back to normal or neo normal and sometimes to an altogether a higher plane! We savour the joy of living!..........
